Easter 2026 - Death to Life
Message Notes:
The message of Easter weekend is the story about:
•resurrection
•death to life
•And, this idea is reflected all over the New Testament
Two Scriptural examples:
•1 Peter 3:18
•John 11:25-26
The message of “Death brings Life” is not simply “theologically true” — It is “true.” It is even true when we talk about food. Food is essential to life, but it is more than nourishment. It also has theological connections to Easter weekend.
•Before we eat food, it must be plucked from its life source.
•It must die.
In many ways (in nature) death is the engine of life.
•Look at the food chain — on the land and in the sea.
•So, when God wants to explain His plan for humanity, what must happen to the Son? — He must die. And He did die.
•It is important to understand that the cross is not simply theologically or sacramentally true — it is true.
•See Romans 5:8-9; 1 Peter 3:18.
In addition, God wants us to also live (like Jesus) with hearts driven by a similar sacrifice.
•See Mark 8:34-35
In closing: Byron will share the story of a sinful, fallen and broken man — who, by the grace of God, is seeking to rebuild his life — from death to life.
Discussion questions:
The message of Easter revolves around this theme — from death to life.
This was true for Jesus. It is true about life. It is true about how Jesus wants us to live.
•Can you think of aspects of your life that are compromising your relationship with God?
•If there was “one thing” that God would want you to change in order for you to have a richer and more peaceful life — what would that be?
If there is sin in your life — holding you back — would you confess it and repent? If not, why not?
