Peaceful Mind

Message Notes:

•Luke 2 contains the story about the birth of Jesus, the Messiah.

•Luke 2:14 — “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

•An important promise about something coming with the arrival of the Messiah — “Peace.”

In the Bible, there are two categorical expressions or descriptions of peace:

•Peace with God — Positional; relational; automatic; at salvation by faith

•Peace of God — Experiential; not automatic; grow into; related to level of TRUST

The rest of the message illustrates and differentiates the two above.

See Philippians 4:11-13; and 1:12-18.

Discussion Questions:

Today’s message is about “peace.”

•On a scale between 1 and 10 — how peaceful are you? (1) - not too peaceful; (10) - very peaceful.

Do you have a confident sense of “peace with God” or assurance of salvation? Do you realize that it can be real even though you may not “feel” it? It is automatic and real at the moment of salvation.

What do you think does the most to threaten your sense of actual peace?

•Read and meditate upon the following verses —

•Philippians 4:6-7

•6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

•Isaiah 26:3

•3 You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!
